Clutter
Clutter, clutter, clutter. I am not talking about spring cleaning, but I am talking about spiritual cleaning. Romans 12:1-2 states “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” I want to stick on one part of the scripture, “but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Your mind can only be renewed by removing what is in front of you that is keeping your mind from receiving that which is acceptable to God. I remember in 2002, sitting in the floor of my house in Shreveport, LA with my wife Davi, and us throwing away movies from our collection. Movies were all over the floor and we had a trash bag. We would pick up a movie and say, “Lord, is this acceptable to you?” If the answer was no, we threw it away.
On Sunday night during Eddie James’ awesome ministry, I heard the Lord speak to me and ask, “How did you get free from the addictions in your life?” I stopped hanging around certain individuals and stopped going to certain places that had the substance I was looking for. Then I heard the Lord speak to me and say, “You have clutter that has become a new addiction, which is birthing complacency. You need to remove everything from you that is sucking away your time. You need to be transformed by the renewing of your mind and remove clutter, or complacency from your life.”
What has become my complacency? Media. I have allowed the media of watching TV and sitting on the computer to clutter my mind and steal my time with complacency. So the Lord has told me to remove myself or remove things from me so I can renew my mind and get rid of this complacent mindset.
“So PC, what are you saying to me?” It is this simple – what is robbing your time? It is a ploy of the enemy to get you busy with nonsense, to produce complacency in you to ultimately keep you from Jesus. Let’s remove the clutter from our lives. If it is TV, cut it off at a certain time. Or if it is the computer, get it out of your room, office, or set boundaries and shut it off. Clean out your movies and all media. Maybe it is relationships. You may be in good, Godly relationships, hanging around with other believers, but it is stealing your personal time with Jesus.
Whatever it may be, clean out the clutter, remove it, or don’t go to the place that robs your time. Let’s recognize what is robbing the wisdom of God from getting to us. Call it what is and kill this complacent spirit.
